Research & Development

Overview

The Research and Development Department (R&D) leads the innovation at GenieKnows.com by developing state-of-the-art search engine technologies. Our patent-pending focused crawling technology and the patent-pending ranking algorithm of geographic web entities are examples of our most recent achievements. We are committed to providing users with a superior search experience.

Focus

The R&D Department currently focuses on two key products: the local search engine and the focused search engine.

1. Local Search Engine

The GenieKnows.com Local Search Engine augments directory-style business listings with organic, related, Web results. We have developed an original ranking algorithm that combines the information from the Web's hyperlink connectivity, and references to geographical entities contained within Web sites. The result is a geographic local search engine that presents unique, useful, and novel features competitive with the leading local search engines.

2. Focused Search Engine

Focused search (a.k.a. vertical search) is an emerging direction for search engines. Our Health, Games, and Business search engines afford the users with relevant results from a single domain that are not diluted by results from other areas where the search may have meaning. For example, searching for "baccarat" with games.genieknows.com does not produce results from jewelry websites. In addition, the results are classified into categories, facilitating narrowing the search, and locating relevant results even when using broad queries.
